Pacific Northwest Lighthouses and Seascapes Photo Workshop

Pacific Northwest Lighthouses and Seascapes Photo Workshop
July 13-16, 2023
Join Lerro Photography as we travel along the coasts of northern Oregon and southern Washington to photograph some of the most beautiful landscapes and lighthouses in the United States. The rugged cliffs with breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean create the backdrop to these incredible scenes.
During this workshop, participants will learn how to photograph these scenes under different lighting situations, including sunrise, sunset, and at night. We have been granted special access and permits to restricted areas so we may photograph these lighthouses at nighttime.
Trip Itinerary:
Thursday:
— Heceta Head Lighthouse in the Afternoon —
Heceta Head Lighthouse is one of the most photographed lighthouses in the world and for good reason. With several viewing vantage points, the photographers will be able to capture pictures of this dramatic scene both day and night.
— Thor’s Well at Sunset —
Thor’s Well is an old sea cave that has collapsed, creating the illusion of a hole in the ocean. As high tide approached, water can be photographed splashing in and out. During our workshop, we will set up so we can photograph the well at sunset.
— Heceta Head Lighthouse at night —
Friday:
— Sea Lions in a cave in the morning —
The Sea Lion Caves north of Florence is a privately owned wildlife preserve and bird sanctuary (since 1932) centrally located just 11 miles north of Florence on the beautiful and rugged Oregon Coast. It’s America’s largest sea cave and the year-round home of the Steller sea lion. It also offers a large overlook for viewing and photography.
— Cannon Beach in the afternoon and at sunset —
Cannon Beach gets its name from a naval cannon that washed up after a shipwreck in the 1840s. Just offshore the site is the world-famous Haystack Rock which is a massive towering rock formation off the coast, with adjacent stone “needles”, vibrant tidepools, and flocks of seabirds adorning the landmark. Nearby Ecola State Park is north on the edge of a headland and offers panoramic coastal views of the beach.
Saturday:
— Cannon Beach sunrise —
— Cape Disappointment in the afternoon, evening, and at night —
Cape Disappointment is a headland located in southern Washington state and features beautiful cliffs, wildlife, and two lighthouses. During our photo workshop, we will photograph the lighthouse and surrounding landscape both day and night.
Sunday:
—Cape Disappointment at sunrise —
Difficulty Level: Easy/Moderate
Most of our shooting will take place on the beach or along paths. When shooting at Thor’s Well, the rocks can be very slippery. Our shooting times will range from before sunrise through mid-morning, and mid-afternoon through sunset as well as the first couple hours at night. Getting rest during the day or whenever possible will be vital as we are up early and late to bed.
