Outer Banks Lighthouses 2020
Lerro Photography Presents:
The Outer Banks Lighthouse Photo Workshop
May 20-24, 2020
The waters off the shore of the Outer Banks of North Carolina are known as the “Graveyard of the Atlantic,” and for good reason — more than 1,000 ships have sunk in these waters since recordkeeping began in 1526. Because of this, a cluster of our country’s tallest lighthouses protect these shores.
Join Lerro Photography as we travel by land and sea to photograph some of the most famous lighthouses in the country. During the workshop, participants will learn how to photograph these scenes under several different lighting situations, including sunrise, sunset, and at night. New moon falls on these dates so the skies will be dark and the Milky Way will be visible. The areas surrounding the lighthouses are very dark at night, so the conditions are ideal to photograph the Milky Way.
The Outer Banks Lighthouse trip will be broken into two parts:
Part One – Cape Hatteras National Seashore – May 20-22, 2020
During this part of the workshop, we will photograph the following lighthouses in daylight and at night: Cape Hatteras Light, Bodie Island Light, and Roanoke Marshes Light. We will also take a ferry to Ocracoke Island to photograph Ocracoke Lighthouse during the day.
Part Two – Cape Lookout – May 22-24, 2020
Cape Lookout Lighthouse resides on the isolated island of Cape Lookout and has the unique distinction of being the only lighthouse in the U.S. with a diamond pattern paint scheme. For our photo shoot, we will travel by ferry from Harkers Island to Cape Lookout, where we will camp and photograph the lighthouse during our two-night camping stay. During the night, we will not only photograph the lighthouse, but enjoy a bonfire on the beach as well. The ferry will bring us back to the mainland when our workshop is over.
The primitive camping site is right on the beach and is within 100 yards of the lighthouse. Bathrooms and drinking water are available at the campsite. You must bring your own food camping equipment.
