Monument Valley Photo Workshop 2024 (SOLD OUT)

Monument Valley Photo Workshop 2024
Lerro Photography Presents:
Monument Valley Photo Workshop
March 15th-17th, 2024
Join Pete Lerro and Lerro Photography as we photograph Monument Valley, one of Earth’s most unique and photographed locations. The majestic buttes and red sandstone colors portray an unearthly appearance and have been featured in dozens of movies. Monument Valley has been designated as a Navajo tribal park to preserve the Navajo way of life and help keep the recognizable landscapes from destruction. Join us as we spend three days and nights photographing the formations and the Navajo people who live in the park.
The Landscape: Our hired guide will take us to several backcountry locations so we can take pictures at sunrise, sunset, and at night. The general public cannot access many of these locations without a guide. These locations include behind the Mittens, the Totem Pole, several arches, sand dunes, and Mystery Valley. Our special use permit allows our group to stay within the park after hours to take pictures at night. The moon will illuminate the landscape for the night’s first half, and then the second half will feature a moonless sky with the Milky Way arching over the horizon.
The Culture: The most crucial thing about Monument Valley is the Navajo people. We’ll set up portrait opportunities of the Navajo dressed in historical clothing and on horseback. Some of our scenes will be outside as well as inside a hogan. There will also be opportunities to photograph the Navajo family herding their livestock, hair weaving, rug weaving, and pictographs.
Throughout the photo workshop, we will photograph during various lighting conditions, including sunrise, daytime, sunset, blue hour, and nighttime. The photographers will learn fundamentals in composition and camera settings such as aperture, shutter speed, and ISO.
Before the photography workshop, we will have an online orientation via Zoom so we can all meet and go over basic camera settings.
