Monument Valley 2021 – 2nd Workshop

About
Lerro Photography Presents:
Monument Valley
May 17-20, 2021
Kayenta, AZ
Monument Valley is one of the most unique and photographed locations on earth. The tribal park preserves the Navajo way of life and helps keep the recognizable landscapes from destruction. The majestic buttes and red sandstone colors portray an un-earthly appearance and have been featured in dozens of movies. Join us as we explore this beautiful park and photograph Navajo culture and landscape within.
The Landscape:
We’ll spend 3 nights in a private hogan in the back country and have access to many restricted areas in the park including behind the Mittens, the Totem Pole, Hunts Mesa, Mystery Valley and the sand dunes. Our special use permit allows our group to stay within the park after hours to take pictures at sunrise and sunset, as well as throughout the night. The crescent moon will be visible for the first half of the night and then the second half of the night will feature a moonless sky with the Milky Way arching over the horizon.
The Culture:
We’ll setup portrait opportunities of the Navajo dressed in historic clothing. There will be opportunities to photograph the family herding their livestock, hair weaving, rug weaving and pictographs.
Endurance Level: Moderate
The photographers will need to be able to stay awake at different times of the day and night in order to participate in all of the photo sessions. The bulk of our shooting will happen in the evening, sunset, nighttime and sunrise in order to maximize the low sunlight angles with the red rocks and the night skies. Most of our locations are just beyond the parking areas but a couple of our spots require a 7-10 minute hike in each direction. You will need a 4×4 vehicle.
Navajo Nation: The parks of Navajo Nation are scheduled to open on May 1st.
