Liberty Ship John W Brown
Lerro Productions Presents:
The Liberty Ship “John W. Brown” Photo Shoot
September 7-8, 2019
The Liberty ship “John W. Brown” is one of only two remaining, fully operational Liberty ships that participated in World War II. We are going to take two trips on the “John W. Brown.”
Part 1 – The Public Cruise
September 7 – 10:00am-4:00pm
Twice a year, the museum offers public cruises on the ship that travel out into the Chesapeake Bay. During the cruise, people are allowed to walk throughout the ship and learn about its history. At one point in the trip, a number of WWII fighter planes stage a battle above the ship and the crew of the “John W. Brown” fire the 20mm and other guns at the attacking planes.
Part 2 – The Deadhead Run to Norfolk, VA
September 7 6:00pm to September 8 2:00pm
Once the public cruise is over, the Liberty ship needs to make an overnight deadhead run to Norfolk, VA, to go into dry dock for maintenance. We have arranged for our group of photographers and reenactors to go on this trip. During this trip, we’ll have unprecedented access on the ship so we can create some amazing shots. One of our scenes will be in the active engine room. The “John W. Brown” is powered by a triple expansion reciprocating steam engine and the giant pistons will make for a great backdrop. Some of the other areas of the ship include the bridge, radio room, chart room, bunk rooms and the decks. One of the highlights of our shoot will be having our reenactors on the guns and deck at sunset and sunrise.
Accommodations and travel:
The photographers will have bunks, access to the restrooms and be fed breakfast, lunch, and dinner with the crew of the ship. Once we arrive in Norfolk, we will get in minivans and be driven back to the ferry terminal in Baltimore, MD. We should arrive back in Baltimore around 8:30pm.
Previous Photo shoot:
We did a photo shoot on the Battleship New Jersey in August 2018. Check out the Navy photos from that shoot so you get an idea of what we do:
