Arches National Park Photo Workshop 2024
Lerro Photography Presents:
Arches National Park Photo Workshop
March 12th-14th, 2024
Join Pete Lerro and Lerro Photography as we photograph Utah’s Arches National Park’s fantastic landscape of contrasting colors, shapes, and textures. This is one of the most iconic national parks in America, and after this workshop, you’ll have photos that showcase it at its best — including Delicate Arch, famous enough to be featured on Utah’s license plates.
Arches National Park features over 2,000 natural red sandstone arches and hundreds of pinnacles, rock fins, and balanced rocks. I have spent twenty years photographing at Arches and have ten years of experience leading photo workshops in this beautiful place. During that time, I gained expertise in which formations are the most photogenic — and when to capture the sunlight just right on their delicate forms or how to frame the Milky Way with the arches and rock formations.
During the workshop, we’ll photograph several arches and rock formations, including Delicate Arch, Window Arch, Landscape Arch, Double Arch, and Balanced Rock. Participants will learn to photograph these scenes under several lighting situations, including sunrise, sunset, and nighttime photography.
For our night photography sessions, the moon will illuminate the landscape for the night’s first half, casting its glow on the red rocks and adding new dimensions to their textures and monolithic stature. The night’s second half will feature a moonless sky, with the Milky Way prominently arching over the horizon behind and between the ancient rock formations. You will also learn the fundamental techniques of how changes in aperture, shutter speed, and ISO can affect photographs.
Before the photography workshop, we will have an online orientation via Zoom so we can all meet and go over basic camera settings.

Difficulty Level: Moderate
The photographers will need to be able to stay awake at different times of the day and night to participate in all of the photo sessions. Most of our shooting will happen at sunset, nighttime, and sunrise to maximize the low sunlight angles and night skies. While some of our locations are just beyond the parking lot, others require hiking. The longest hiking trail is 1.5 miles each way with about a 500ft elevation gain. We will need to do this hike at night. Our shooting locations range from an elevation of 4,000ft-5000ft, so please make sure you’re in good health before signing up for this photo workshop. The average high temperatures will be in the 30’s-60’s°F.
