10 Years Shooting the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade 2023
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City has been an American tradition for 97 years. I’ve had the honor of being one of the official photographers for the parade for the last ten years by shooting for a company called Group Photos. My first three years of photographing the parade were done by following along on the streets between 72nd and 46th Street. Many of our shots feature the bands, balloons, and Santa, with Central Park and Radio City in the background.
Since 2016, I’ve been positioned on the 5th-floor roof directly across the street from Macy’s to capture the large group shots of the bands and cheer teams with the building in the background. It is the best seat in the house. Not only do I get to see the parade, I get to see all of the behind-the-scenes things that the NBC production team does between commercial breaks.
I look forward to shooting the parade again next year.
