D-Day Conneaut Ohio 2022 D-Day Conneaut Ohio is a premier living history event and one of the largest and most realistic World War II reenactments in the United States. I have been volunteering as a staff photographer since 2016 and this year, I was honored to take the role of the lead staff photographer for the event. My job as the lead is to make sure that all the staff photographers have gotten coverage of all aspects of the event. This is important because the pictures taken by the staff photographers are then uploaded to the D-Day event page and… [Read More]
Maine Harbors and Lighthouses Workshop 2022
Maine Harbors and Lighthouses Workshop 2022 The coast of Maine offers some of the most scenic and photogenic maritime scenes in the United States. For our 2022 photo workshop, we focused on capturing the historic charm of the harbors, fishing wharves, lobster boats, lighthouses, and rocky cliffs in the area. This workshop was scheduled to occur during the full moon so our photo opportunities could take advantage of the moon. I traveled to Maine several days early to get up to date on lobster trap placement and how many lobster boats were out fishing each day. A couple of the photographers… [Read More]
Howard DGA-15P Air to Air Photo Shoot 2022
Howard DGA-15P Air to Air Photo Shoot 2022 In July 2022, I was given the opportunity to photograph two Howard DGA-15Ps in the air over Lake Erie. These beautifully restored aircraft are privately owned and maintained to a very high standard, so much so that the green Howard won Best in Show at Oshkosh 2019. If these planes look familiar, it’s because they both made a surprise appearance during our Liberty Aviation photo shoot for both day and night photos in 2021. Fun Fact: DGA in the name stands for “Damn Good Airplane”. I look forward to working with the… [Read More]
Thunder Over Michigan Airshow 2022
Thunder Over Michigan Airshow 2022 Since 2019, Lerro Photography has been providing the lighting for the night photo sessions at Yankee Air Museum’s Thunder Over Michigan Airshow. This airshow features a mix of WWII, Vietnam, and modern aircraft including the famous Blue Angels. Traditionally our night sessions are of WWII era planes. For years we have been trying to arrange for a modern fighter jet to be part of the night session and this year we finally got our chance. To the surprise of all the photographers, an F-16C Viper from the Ohio Air National Guard’s 112th Fighter Squadron “Stingers” was… [Read More]
Old Bedford Village Scouting
The Old West at Old Bedford Village Lerro Photography was invited to photograph a public “Old West” event at the Old Bedford Village in Bedford PA. I have been trying to put on a Wild West-themed photo shoot in Tombstone, AZ in recent years but the pandemic and other delays occurred. It was thought that if we could make enough connections at this Old Bedford Village event, it could open a door to making a future Wild West photo shoot happen. Throughout the day, I photographed reenactors in a variety of scenarios including gun shootouts, portraits, and everyday life. I saw some… [Read More]
Reading Airshow 2022
WWII Airshow at Mid-Atlantic Air Museum In June 2022, Lerro Photography was hired to provide the lighting at the 2nd annual night photo session during the WWII Airshow at the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum in Reading, PA. Three planes were featured for the night session, which included the Vought F4U Corsair, a Curtiss P-40 Warhawk, and a B-25 Mitchell. Each of the planes ran its engines and put on quite a show for the photographers. On Saturday morning of the airshow, Lerro Photography recruited several reenactors to pose with the B-24 Liberator. With most aircraft shoots, we are only able to take… [Read More]
Battle of Britain Aviation Night Photo Session 2022
Battle of Britain Aviation Night Photo Session 2022 On May 28, 2022, Lerro Photography sponsored a night photography session at the Military Aviation Museum that featured three British and two German WWII aircraft. Initially, there were to be two air-to-air shoots as well as a daytime reenactment photo shoot but those had to be postponed due to weather. Luckily for the night shoot photographers, the weather dried out and we were able to proceed with the night session. Deep in the heart of the Navajo Nation, the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park preserves the rich history of the Navajo people going back to before the turn of the century. In May 2022, Lerro Photography sponsored two photography workshops at Monument Valley. The workshops were greatly anticipated by the photographers with the park having been closed since the spring of 2020 due to the ongoing pandemic. One of the advantages of attending the workshop is that we were… [Read More]
Chesapeake Bay Photo Workshop 2022
Chesapeake Bay Photo Workshop 2022 April 2022, Lerro Photography organized a photography photo workshop of the central Chesapeake Bay that featured 10 lighthouses in addition to landscape and wildlife shots around Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. Our first day featured two charter boat rides out in the Bay. Our first boat left at dawn and we got to photograph a spectacular sunrise at the Thomas Point Lighthouse. Sharps Island Lighthouse is best know for leaning at 15 degrees due to an ice flow impact that occurred… [Read More]
Yosemite Photo Workshop 2022
Yosemite Photo Workshop 2022 In February 2022, Lerro Photography organized a photography photo workshop at Yosemite National Park. Yosemite is one of America’s most popular National Parks and is world-renowned through the artwork of landscape photographer Ansel Adam. We planned our photo workshop to coincide with the Fire Falls event at Horsetail Falls as well as the potential of winter storms. The winter snowfall got off to a great start with several big snowstorms in December and January but unfortunately, it warmed up the week proceeding our workshop so most of the snow in the valley melted just… [Read More]
