Everett and Strasburg Charters
Everett Railroad: November 4-5, 2017
Everett #11 was constructed in 1920 by the Cooke Works of the American Locomotive Company (Alco) in Paterson, New Jersey. It is a “2-6-0” or “Mogul” type and was intended for export to Cuba for use in the sugar cane fields. Due to fluctuations in world sugar markets post World War, #11 wasn’t sent to Cuba but was eventually purchased by the Narragansett Pier Railroad in Peace Dale, Rhode Island. The locomotive changed hands several more times before it wound up at the Everett Railroad. The Everett #11 was restored to operation in 2015 and is used to pull passenger trains on the Everett Railroad.
For our photo charter, Everett #11 will pull a combine and a coach and will feature runbys around Hollidaysburg as well as both the Claysburg and Martinsburg branches. Our schedule includes a full day on Saturday, a night session Saturday night and a Sunday morning session. The charter will end at lunch time to allow everyone to travel to Strasburg for our 2nd charter.
N&W 382 (Strasburg Railroad): November 6, 2017
The Strasburg Railroad owns and operates the former N&W 4-8-0 #475. Back by popular demand, we’ll dress up the N&W 475 as the N&W 382 in order to recreate of the famous Virginia Creeper from the N&W Abingdon Branch made famous by O’Winston Link. The changes include the spark arrester, plow, whistle and other cosmetic changes. The tender was recently painted back to “Norfolk and Western” for another event and will be kept as such for our charter.
Our charter will feature runbys from sunrise to sunset as well as a night session. We’ll also have a number of civilian reenactors for station shots. Don’t be surprised if a couple of Rosies show up too.
- Everett #11 runbys on both the Martinsburg and Claysburg branches.
- Norfolk and Western 475 dressed up as 382.
- If the turntable is operable, we can turn N&W 382 for the charter.
